What we build in El Cajon

El Cajon’s valley floor holds some of the flattest, most generous lots in the county, which is exactly the kind of canvas that rewards a full outdoor living build rather than a patch job. Move toward the surrounding hills near Fletcher Hills or Rancho San Diego and those same generous footprints pick up real slope and rockier ground, changing what a backyard plan needs to account for.

Summer heat is the other constant here, with El Cajon regularly running hotter and drier than coastal San Diego, so shade structures, cool hardscape surfaces and low water turf carry more weight in a design than they might closer to the beach. An outdoor kitchen under real shade turns a hot valley backyard into a room that gets used through the season instead of avoided during the afternoon.

I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, the team was professional, honest, and detail-oriented. They communicated clearly throughout the entire project, stayed on schedule, and delivered exactly what they promised.

Sunny builders does quality work and is very easy to work with. We have hired their team for two separate yard projects and they have been great. They have been on time and on budget, and the finished project looks great.

We recently hired Sunny Builders to build our backyard BBQ area, and the results are fantastic. They helped bring our vision to life and created a beautiful, functional outdoor space that our family enjoys every week. The crew was punctual, respectful, and maintained a clean worksite throughout the project. Their expertise and dedication were evident in every step of the process. We have received so many compliments from friends and neighbors. Highly recommended!

Frequently asked questions

Does El Cajon's heat change how backyards should be designed?

It should. El Cajon runs hotter and drier than coastal San Diego, so surfaces that stay cool underfoot, shaded seating and turf instead of thirsty lawn all matter more here. We factor your yard's sun exposure and orientation into the design during your free in-home consultation.

Are El Cajon's hillside lots harder to build on than the valley floor?

Generally yes. Flat valley lots are usually straightforward, while properties climbing toward Fletcher Hills or Rancho San Diego often carry rock and real grade that affects drainage and wall design. We confirm the specific site conditions for your address before writing your itemized quote.

How does the free in-home consultation work?

Call (858) 888-1725 or send the form and we call you back to book a time. We come to your home, walk the space with you, measure and talk through scope and budget. It usually takes 30–60 minutes, and your written, itemized quote follows within two to three days. It is free for homeowners, with no obligation. Two situations are quoted differently: an appraisal-style quote on a property you do not own yet, and a quote for an insurance claim, are $350 each, credited in full toward your project if you go ahead with us.

How much does a backyard remodel cost in El Cajon?

It depends on the size of the yard, the materials and the scope. A paver patio prices very differently from a full outdoor kitchen. We measure on-site at your free in-home consultation and put the whole scope into a written, itemized quote, so you know the real number before committing to anything.

Is there a minimum project size?

Yes. Our projects generally start around $6,000 to $8,000. Below that a full design-build crew is not the right fit, and you would be paying for overhead your job does not need. Ask anyway: for smaller work in the San Diego area we will point you to a handyman we trust rather than leave you without an answer.

Do you provide 3D design and renderings?

Yes. When you sign the project with us, the 3D design and rendering are included at no extra charge, so you can see the space before we build it. If you want the design on its own, it starts at $2,700, and that amount is credited toward the project if you go ahead with us.

What warranty do you offer?

Warranty length follows the material, because different materials wear in different ways: retaining walls 20-Year, aluminum and vinyl 20-Year, pavers 15-Year, artificial turf 15-Year, concrete 10-Year, wood 5-Year and irrigation 1-Year. That is our workmanship warranty on the installation, written into your contract. Ask us what applies to your scope at the in-home consultation.

Are you a licensed contractor?

Yes, Sunny Builders Group is a licensed California contractor, CSLB #1098213, classifications B, C-27. We are bonded and carry workers’ compensation and liability insurance. You can verify the license on the CSLB website.

What areas do you serve?

We work across San Diego County and Temecula Valley. See the full list on our service areas page.

Do you only build outdoor projects?

Outdoor living is our specialty and the bulk of what we build. We are also a licensed general contractor, so we take on interior remodels: kitchens, bathrooms and flooring. If a project runs from the backyard into the house, it stays with one licensed contractor and one crew instead of being split between two companies.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, financing options are available for your project. Ask us about the current plans when you book your free in-home consultation.
